PVC has a flame retardant (flame retardant value of 40 or more), high chemical resistance (resistance to concentrated hydrochloric acid, the concentration of 90% sulfuric acid, the concentration of 60% nitric acid and 20% sodium hydroxide concentration), mechanical strength And good electrical insulation advantages.
PVC light, heat stability is poor. The softening point is 80 ° C and begins to decompose at 130 ° C. In the case of non-heating stabilizer, polyvinyl chloride began to decompose at 100 ℃, more rapid decomposition above 130 ℃. Hydrogen chloride gas is decomposed when heated, and it is discolored by hydrogen chloride gas (toxic gas), from white → light yellow → red → brown → black. Ultraviolet light and oxygen in the sunshine cause the photo-oxidative decomposition of the polyvinyl chloride, thus reducing the flexibility of the polyvinyl chloride and finally making it brittle. It is not hard to understand from here, why some of the PVC plastic over time will turn yellow, brittle reasons.
Has stable physical and chemical properties, does not dissolve in water, alcohol, gasoline, gas, water vapor leakage is low; at room temperature resistant to any concentration of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid below 90%, 50-60% nitric acid and 20% Caustic soda solution, has a certain resistance to chemical corrosion; quite stable salt, but can be dissolved in ethers, ketones, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons and other organic solvents.
